Police in Bengaluru have taken a man into custody for allegedly harassing and assaulting a woman in broad daylight near her PG accommodation in Ullal, underscoring rising worries about online harassment escalating into physical violence.
Police officials stated that the accused initially connected with the woman via Instagram. What started as casual online chats soon turned into persistent pressure for a personal relationship. Even after the woman firmly rejected his advances, the man allegedly continued to pursue and harass her.
In her complaint, the victim mentioned that she has been residing at Shri Sai Baba Ladies PG in Ullal for the past six months. Previously employed as a telecaller with Dhatri Developers in Nagarabhavi, she had shared promotional work-related posts on Instagram on September 30, 2024. It was through these posts that she came into contact with the accused, Naveen Kumar, a resident of Bilya Maranahalli in Yelahanka.
According to the FIR, the online acquaintance soon developed into regular meetings in Nagarabhavi. Over time, the accused allegedly grew persistent in demanding a relationship. After the woman declined, he is said to have followed her, repeatedly appearing near her PG residence and continuing to harass her despite her clear objections.

The situation escalated on December 22, 2025, at around 3.20 pm. When the woman stepped out of her PG, the accused allegedly attacked her, hitting her on the head, back, and neck. The complaint further stated that he attempted to tear her clothes during the assault. The incident occurred in broad daylight, sending shockwaves among residents in the area.
The woman promptly informed the police, but the accused had escaped before officers arrived. Authorities then initiated a manhunt, gathered witness accounts, and examined nearby CCTV footage, which ultimately led to his arrest.
An FIR has been filed in the case, and legal proceedings are in progress. Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and assured that stringent measures will be taken against the accused to safeguard women’s safety in the city.
