Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Launched: PM Modi to Flag Off in Jan | Fare, Features, Coaches, Food Details Inside
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday unveiled India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train, marking a major step forward in long-distance rail travel. The sleeper version of the semi-high-speed train is planned to operate on the Guwahati–Kolkata route, enhancing overnight connectivity between the Northeast and eastern India. The minister added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to flag off the inaugural service in the coming days.
Calling it a significant milestone for Indian Railways, the minister said the Vande Bharat sleeper train has been designed to offer passengers world-class amenities, enhanced safety standards, and a comfortable, modern travel experience, especially for long-distance overnight journeys.

He further said that the onboard catering will highlight regional flavours, with the Guwahati-origin service featuring traditional Assamese dishes, while passengers travelling from Kolkata will be served popular Bengali cuisine.
16-Coach Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Designed for Speeds Up to 180 kmph
Highlighting its specifications, Vaishnaw said the sleeper train is designed for speeds up to 180 kmph and will feature 16 coaches, including AC three-tier and two-tier compartments, along with advanced safety systems such as Kavach and emergency talk-back facilities.
He further noted that the train is equipped with advanced disinfection technology to maintain high hygiene standards. It also features a sleek, aerodynamic exterior design along with automatic passenger doors to enhance safety and convenience during travel.

The Guwahati–Kolkata corridor has been proposed as the first operational route. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the inaugural service in the coming days. Describing it as a major milestone, Vaishnaw said the train will offer world-class amenities, enhanced safety features, and a modern travel experience for long-distance overnight passengers.
