Police reported that early Wednesday in South Delhi, a Citroen car struck a Hyundai Xcent taxi at a traffic intersection on August Kranti Marg near Siri Fort Auditorium, killing a 43‑year‑old cab driver and a passenger, and leaving another man seriously injured.

Police stated that a 21‑year‑old MBA student driving the Citroen was arrested and charged with rash and negligent driving after a fatal crash that left two dead and others injured, noting he was speeding and driving recklessly.
The victims were identified as 43‑year‑old cab driver Girja Kumar Bhardwaj from Khichripur, east Delhi, and 30‑year‑old Ranjeet, who resided with his family in Nehru Nagar near Lajpat Nagar, south Delhi.
Police identified the injured man as 20‑year‑old Sumit, a relative of Ranjeet and resident of Nehru Nagar. Both men worked as drummers at weddings and social events and were returning home from a performance in South Delhi when the accident occurred, according to senior officers
A police officer reported that the cab’s driver and two passengers were rescued but found unconscious and severely injured. At AIIMS Trauma Centre, doctors pronounced 43‑year‑old Girja Kumar Bhardwaj and 30‑year‑old Ranjeet dead, while the third occupant, Sumit, is undergoing treatment and remains in critical condition.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan said that at around 4.20am, Hauz Khas police station received a call about a road accident near Siri Fort Auditorium. On arrival, officers found a Citroen and a Hyundai Xcent cab severely damaged, with three people trapped inside the cab. The vehicle’s left side was mangled, the cab had veered onto a footpath, and the private car’s front portion was damaged in the middle of the road.
During the spot enquiry, the officer noted that the Citroen was heading from Panchsheel flyover (Outer Ring Road) towards Andrews Ganj along August Kranti Marg, while the cab was traveling from Andrews Ganj to Nehru Nagar on the opposite carriageway. As the cab attempted a right turn at the Siri Fort intersection to reach Balbir Saxena Marg, the speeding private car allegedly struck its left side.
The officer explained that the collision’s force caused the cab to strike a nearby gas pipeline signboard, crash into a traffic signal pole, and then mount the pavement before stopping. He added that neither driver had jumped the signal, which was on blinking mode, and that the Citroen’s excessive speed led to the fatal accident.’
DCP Chauhan stated that the driver, identified as 21‑year‑old Krishansh Kapoor of Udai Park, was apprehended at the accident site. He had been returning home from a friend’s residence, located less than a kilometre from the crash spot, when the mishap occurred.
The DCP said a case was filed under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Hauz Khas police station, and Kapoor was arrested. His medical test confirmed he was not intoxicated during the crash. Kapoor is an MBA student at a private institute, and the car is registered in his mother’s name.
According to family members, Bhardwaj is survived by his wife and two sons—23‑year‑old Deepak and 21‑year‑old Vishal. They noted he was the household’s only source of income.
Deepak told reporters that his younger brother Vishal has been bedridden and in a coma since a road accident two years ago. He added that he himself is unemployed and the family relied entirely on his father’s income, leaving them uncertain about their future after the tragedy.
