Ranveer Singh’s espionage thriller Dhurandhar has reportedly emerged as the most illegally downloaded film in Pakistan, despite being officially barred from release there. According to trade analysts and media sources, the film has registered nearly 2 million pirated downloads within just two weeks of its release. This surge has reportedly pushed Dhurandhar past previous piracy benchmarks set by Rajinikanth’s 2.0 and Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees.
Dhurandhar Emerges as Most Pirated Film in Pakistan
As per reports referenced by IANS, the Aditya Dhar–directed film has witnessed a sharp surge in piracy across Pakistan and select Gulf countries where it remains banned. If these figures are accurate, Dhurandhar now reportedly stands as the most pirated Indian film in Pakistan to date. Instead of curbing interest, the ban appears to have intensified audience curiosity, pushing viewers toward illegal digital platforms and leading to widespread online circulation.
Dhurandhar Box Office Holds Firm Despite Ban
Industry estimates indicate that the ban may have resulted in a projected revenue setback of nearly Rs 50–60 crore. However, the film’s overall performance remains robust, having already surpassed the Rs 500 crore milestone at the domestic box office. Internationally, it has added approximately Rs 140 crore from overseas territories.
Based on current trends, trade analysts expect the film’s global earnings to cross Rs 700 crore by the close of its second week, even though it has not received an official release in certain markets.
How the Ban Backfired: Piracy Routes Used by Viewers in Pakistan
According to reports, viewers in Pakistan are accessing Dhurandhar through torrent websites, Telegram channels, underground streaming links, and VPN-based services. Servers located in Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Malaysia are reportedly being used to route illegal access into the country.
The film’s online buzz has also spilled over onto social media platforms, drawing mixed reactions. While some users have criticised the storyline, others have praised the performances. At the same time, reels, memes, short clips, and viral content linked to the film have been widely circulated across digital platforms.
Legal Challenge Raised Against Dhurandhar in Pakistan
The film has now sparked a legal controversy in Pakistan as well. Reports suggest that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has moved a Karachi court, raising objections over the alleged use of images of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in the movie. The petition reportedly calls for the registration of an FIR against the makers and cast of Dhurandhar.
In the film, Ranveer Singh plays Hamza, an Indian intelligence operative who goes undercover in Lyari, Pakistan, to dismantle terror networks. The ensemble cast also includes Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Rakesh Bedi in pivotal roles.
Despite facing bans, piracy concerns, and legal challenges, Dhurandhar continues to grab attention — not just for its box office performance, but also for its unexpected surge in illegal online downloads, which has kept the film firmly in the news cycle.
