Border 2, starring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, is off to a flying start at the global box office. The Anurag Singh-directed sequel to the 1997 war drama Border has been showered with praise from critics and audiences alike. While the film continues its successful run, curiosity lingers over its release in Pakistan, particularly after Gulf nations imposed a ban.

Border 2 Release in Pakistan: Cleared or Blocked?
Border 2 opened globally on January 23, with screenings across India and several international markets. Yet, its release in Pakistan remains unconfirmed. Like many Indian films with cross-border narratives, clearance is uncertain, making it unlikely that Pakistani audiences will experience the film in theatres officially.
Border 2 Banned In Gulf Countries
Although Border 2 has premiered worldwide, the film will not be screened in several GCC nations. Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE have denied certification, preventing its theatrical release in these countries.
The ban is reportedly linked to concerns over Border 2’s perceived ‘anti-Pakistan’ narrative, given its focus on the 1971 India-Pakistan conflict. Similar films, such as Dhurandhar, also faced non-release in Pakistan and Gulf nations. While officials have not issued detailed explanations, industry insiders note that movies depicting Pakistan negatively often struggle to gain approval in these regions.
The ban ensures Border 2 will lose box office earnings from a traditionally strong overseas market for Bollywood. Nevertheless, its domestic pull remains robust, with the makers relying on Indian audiences to drive success—similar to how Dhurandhar thrived despite a Gulf release blackout.
Border 2 Box Office: Strong Opening Anticipate
Trade experts anticipate a powerful opening weekend for Border 2 at the Indian box office. With advance bookings already strong and ticket sales pouring in ahead of release, industry estimates suggest the film’s debut collections could surpass previous patriotic blockbusters, positioning it among the year’s biggest openers.
Border 2 is expected to open in the ₹35–40 crore range, surpassing the start of Dhurandhar, which holds the record as the highest-grossing Hindi film ever.
