Jana Nayagan controversy started after the film was submitted to the CBFC on December 18. During its review, the board reportedly raised objections to certain scenes and requested cuts. The producers accepted these directives and made the required edits.

According to Narayana, the Regional Office informed him on December 22 that the Examining Committee had advised granting Jana Nayagan a U/A certificate. The producers contend in court that despite implementing the suggested changes, the CBFC subjected the film to repeated reviews, prolonging the process. After days of delay, the case was escalated to the Revising Committee on January 5, with instructions to take the matter to Mumbai.
On January 6, KVN Productions filed a petition urging the immediate grant of the censor certificate. The producers argued that the prolonged process was unwarranted and jeopardized the film’s release, since distribution and screenings cannot move forward without certification
