New Delhi: BJP councillor Renu Chaudhary, criticized for threatening an African national who did not speak Hindi, has now expressed regret and offered an apology in response to the public outcry.
Patparganj MCD councillor Renu Chaudhary, captured in a viral video at Mayur Vihar Phase I, confronted an African national football coach, demanding he learn Hindi. She issued an ultimatum, warning that action would follow if the language was not learned within a month.
She can also be heard remarking that, as he earns his livelihood in India, he ought to learn the language.
In the first Instagram video, she alleged that the man conducted commercial activities inside the park without paying the required revenue and had not addressed cleanliness issues.
Following the deletion of the video, she issued a statement acknowledging the backlash: “If my remarks caused unintended hurt or inconvenience, I deeply regret and apologize.”
In her follow-up video, Chaudhary highlighted that the park is designated for children’s play and pledged to provide all essential amenities. She concluded, “I hope the kids keep using the park for play.”
Defending her actions, she explained that her visit to the park was part of her duty to address residents’ complaints and fulfill her responsibilities
Virendra Sachdeva, president of the Delhi BJP, stated that he viewed the incident as inappropriate.
He stated that the councillor’s remarks were inappropriate, emphasizing that sports should not be linked to any language. Sachdeva further mentioned that he had directed a party member to meet the children and the coach at the park to ensure all necessary facilities are made available.
