“Today marks the launch of the Delhi–Dharuhera interstate bus service, a significant move to strengthen connectivity between the two cities. Alongside this, 100 new electric buses will hit the city roads starting today. Improving the public transport system is the most effective way to tackle pollution, as it encourages people to shift from private vehicles to cleaner, shared transportation,” said CM Rekha Gupta.
With these new buses joining the fleet, the city now has over 3,500 electric buses in operation. In addition, the government has introduced a new interstate service on the Delhi–Dharuhera route to improve travel connectivity between the two cities.
Chief minister Rekha Gupta said expanding and modernising public transport was key to reducing pollution and easing traffic congestion.
“During the past ten months, the government has concentrated on revitalizing a transport network that had been largely overlooked for years. Many long-paused interstate bus routes have been reinstated, and dedicated services for university students have also been resumed,” said CM Gupta.
A government spokesperson stated that the newly added low-floor, air-conditioned electric buses come with CCTV surveillance, panic buttons, real-time GPS tracking, and accessibility features for people with disabilities. “The addition of these electric buses will bolster Delhi’s eco-friendly public transport network and play a key role in cutting vehicle emissions while enhancing urban air quality,” the official added.
Emphasizing measures to curb pollution, Gupta mentioned that automated vehicle emission testing centres are being established at Nand Nagri, Tehkhand, and Burari to simplify the Pollution Under Control (PUC) certification process. “A dedicated pink card scheme for women will soon be introduced to ensure smooth travel across bus services. Additionally, the government is providing financial backing for Phase IV of the Delhi Metro and further enhancements to the metro network,” she added.
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar stated that the fully electric Dhaula Kuan–Dharuhera route will serve office employees, students, and industrial workers, particularly those traveling to the Gurugram–Manesar industrial corridor. “Encouraging people to rely less on private vehicles will ease traffic congestion, cut down vehicular emissions, and further enhance DTC’s interstate services,” he added.

Gupta noted that the newly launched interstate service will enhance regional connectivity and reduce dependence on private vehicles, especially along busy corridors. The route is expected to benefit commuters heading to the Gurugram–Manesar industrial zone. Key stops on the route include Dhaula Kuan, Rajokri Border, Gurugram, Kherki Daula, Rampura, Manesar, Panchgaon, Vyaspur YNR, Sidhrawali, and Dharuhera. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will deploy three electric buses per shift to operate this service.
