Avatar Fire and Ash Box Office Collection Day 1
Avatar: Fire and Ash was expected to score a bumper opening in India, with projections suggesting over ₹30 crore on its first day. For context, Avatar: Way of Water (Avatar 2) had amassed nearly ₹50 crore on its release day in 2022 and went on to earn around ₹500 crore during its full theatrical run. However, according to Sacnilk estimates at 7:40 AM, the latest installment collected only ₹0.21 crore net in India across all languages on Day 1, indicating a slower start than anticipated.
Film industry tracker Variety has projected a potentially massive global opening for Avatar: Fire and Ash, placing it between the original Avatar and Avatar: Way of Water. Considering the US box office, the film is expected to earn around ₹7,830–₹9,135 crore (equivalent to $90–$105 million) from approximately 3,800 theatres. These estimates highlight the franchise’s enduring popularity and signal a strong international performance for the sci-fi spectacle.
The Avatar franchise has consistently delivered record-breaking openings, with the original film earning around ₹19,056 crore worldwide in 2009 and Avatar: Way of Water debuting at approximately ₹36,264 crore in 2022. The latest installment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is projected to open globally between ₹28,020–₹30,045 crore, positioning it as one of the year’s biggest releases. While the first Avatar amassed ₹2,40,072 crore over its lifetime and its sequel ₹1,89,252 crore, the new film aims to continue the franchise’s blockbuster legacy.
If Avatar 3 surpasses the ₹16,000 crore mark (equivalent to $2 billion), it would become the first film franchise to have three installments enter the ₹16,000 crore club. So far, only the first two Avatar films, along with Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018), have achieved this feat. Meanwhile, Paul Feig’s directorial The Housemaid premieres in the United States today, with its India release scheduled for 2 January 2026.
